Seawall repair in South Gulf Cove
South Gulf Cove canals reach open water through a lock, and the community has its own waterway benefit unit. Know what it covers before you hire anyone.
What the waterway unit handles
Charlotte County's South Gulf Cove Waterway Benefit Unit is set up for periodic dredging, repair and replacement of the waterways, canals, locks and accessory facilities, operating the lock, and clearing cattails from the Interceptor Lagoon.
Before you sign a contract, confirm with Charlotte County Public Works whether the wall on your lot is your responsibility. A contractor cannot bill the county for you, and you do not want to pay for work that is covered.
Signs your wall needs a look
- Cracks, gaps, or spalling in the concrete cap
- Panels leaning toward the canal or pulling apart at the joints
- Holes, soft spots, or sinking pavers in the yard behind the wall
- Rust stains or exposed steel along the cap
- Sand or silt washing out through joints at low tide
- Damage after a storm surge, even if the face looks fine
