Who pays if the wall needs work

In unincorporated Port Charlotte, the seawall is generally the owner's responsibility, and a repair or replacement needs its own county seawall permit. The Northwest Port Charlotte Waterway Unit's own stated purpose specifically excludes seawall maintenance, and the county's other waterway units do not state that they cover it either. Confirm with Charlotte County Public Works for your specific address, in writing if you can.

What a failing wall could cost you

Regional 2026 reporting puts full seawall replacement on a typical canal lot at roughly $52,000 to $160,000. That is a planning range, not a quote. Use it to size up the risk, then let a written estimate on the actual wall set the real number.
